10 Questions to kick start your Bio or About Us page

Writing about yourself can be challenging. Writing about yourself and not sounding like a jerk can be even more challenging.

When writing a bio or about us page your goal is to engage with your audience and assure them that you are both competent and human.

It’s an opportunity to connect with your audience on a more personal level and to show them that you are just like them, but more qualified than them in this area. This is especially important when you’re targeting a particular audience or demographic.

It’s a good idea to refer to things that you like to do that they would also like, or relay experiences as your own that they are most likely having and that you can help them with.

A classic example is stating the reasons you got involved in your particular industry was because you were looking for the solution to problems your intended audience now face.

“I started my online organic vegetarian jelly shop because after I became a vegetarian I couldn’t eat gelatine, but I LOVED jelly”

Give yourself a fixed amount of time to answer these questions – no longer than 20 minutes. You’re looking for a stream of consciousness; just ideas at this stage. You can hone your content later.
